Cathy Horyn on Paris couture: Chanel had challenging (weird?) shapes and the best of Karl's "Germanic darkness"; Galliano's Dior is "ultra-feminine," architectural, and less romantic than in the past. Lacroix, meanwhile, was "heavenly," with variations on black with bursts of color. [NYT] ? Alas, some show-goers may have been distracted from the clothes by the heat wave hitting Paris right now. Money's Not The Only Problem by Diecast Dude on Jul 2, 2008 8:04 PM EDT in News Other than the initial reaction of "aw poor guy -- he'll have to spend more time with Ashley Judd now and I sure hope they can live off her salary," the mothballing of the #40 team and with it Dario Franchitti's position as a Cup driver is much more a sign of how much Chip Ganassi's NASCAR operation is the yin to his open wheel yang. While Reed Sorenson hasn't shown much in Cup, when you have a
Former IRL IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti (also known as Mr. Ashley Judd) has lost his job as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver.? Team owner Chip Ganassi decided to scale back the three-car team to a two-car team leaving Franchitti the odd man out. Franchitti?s #40 team had had an awful start to the season. ? His best finish came with 22nd place at Martinsville.? He also had a dificult time finding permanent major sponsorship.? The team had to resort to using single-race
After an unlucky start to the 2008 season, Chip Ganassi Racing is pulling out of NASCAR, meaning Dario Franchitti is out of a job. The Scottish racer ? AKA Ashley Judd's husband ? was having a miserable season, failing to qualify in Texas and fracturing his leg in a crash two weeks later. His team was equally troubled, unable to find a continuous sponsorship deal for the season. So what's next for Franchitti? We're hoping this means the former IndyCar champion and Indy 500 winner w
Filed under: Motorsports, Hirings/Firings/Layoffs, DodgeOkay, we'll admit it. Most of us here at Autoblog aren't big NASCAR fans. But we have been intrigued by the recent migration of championship-winning open-wheel racers to the stock car series. Former Indy 500 and Monaco GP winner Juan-Pablo Montoya seems to be making a go of it, while fellow Indy and F1 champ Jacques Villeneuve has all but given up hope of ever making it with the good ol' boys. But how about Dario Franchitti? Af
Dario Franchitti won?t be running around NASCAR tracks anytime soon, as the racer?s ownership group is permanently parking his vehicle. The TENNESSEAN reports that team owner Chip Ganassi has pulled over Franchitti?s #40 car from further stock car competition. The biggest problem has been finding funding for Dario, ever since Coors Light belched out of its sponsorship of the car at the end of last season.

[editor's note, by Truzenzuzex] This is simply too darn funny not to have on the front page. Dear Diary, Tru has requested that the diary section of the blog be more utilized. So here goes... With all due respect to David Letterman, here are my Top Ten reasons Kentucky will win 7 or more games: Ashley Judd will be used for motivational purposes by Coach Brooks. (With the cooperation of Dario, of course.) Just before kickoff of the UK v. Arkansas game, Houston Nutt is indict
While volumes have been written about the look of Michael Mann's films, his dialogue is less frequently talked about: compact and economical, Mann's writing is perfectly matched to his images. When Detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) tells his his estranged wife Justine (Diane Venora) that "You were right - all I am is what I'm after," the character's essence is captured in ten words. In Mann's world, identity and function are the same - the director defines his characters, as they

By Jen Dunnaway Editor Last night I finally dropped the transmission out of my parts car, no small feat considering what a loose wobbly mess the entire drivetrain had become within the rapidly disintegrating engine compartment. I had to ratchet-strap the engine to one the fenders, a tip suggested by my ex, to pry the trans all the way loose. It worked! Anyway, here's the news: Who killed the electric car? Not Daimler. They'll be offering an electric Mercedes, in fact, in 2010.

Via Chris Vernon, an ancillary benefit of the recent Negedu commitment is that it means that Marisa Miller is now a Tennessee fan. Negedu is apparently friends with both Miller and her husband (Hollywood producer Griffin Guess) and is reportedly in California right now surfing with Marisa. Vernon says that Negedu's recent commitment to Tennessee puts Miller (a #1 recruit, according to Chris) in the lead, just above Kentucky fan Ashley Judd, as the best college bask
Bruce Pearl has defeated John Calipari for the most important recruit ever. Emmanuel Negedu was being recruited by the Memphis Tigers. He was also being recruited by the Tennessee Vols. He commited to Tennessee this week. On the surface, this is just a top 50 player deciding to go to one school instead of the other. In reality, it is so much more than that. Gary Parrish broke this story and after talking to him I now understand that Negedu went to the same school as the husband of M
